Jon Gruden strikes back! Sues the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell

Will Gruden win his case?

Former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, has decided to push back and has filed a lawsuit against the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell. The lawsuit comes in the wake of leaked, published private emails that exposed the coach of racist, anti-gay and misogynistic language.

Gruden, who was in his 4th year coaching the Raiders, voluntarily resigned and stepped down from his coaching duties. The lawsuit claims the NFL/Goodell pressured the Raiders owner Mark Davis to fire the coach due to the emails and was further pressured that if Gruden wasn’t fired, more exposed emails would be made public. Furthermore, the lawsuit questions the explanation and timing to why only Gruden’s emails were made public of all 650,000 collected emails.

The timing of the emails and reasoning does seem to suggest that the NFL and Roger Goodell had a personal vendetta against Gruden. Did Gruden deserve to be fired? Yes, what was revealed in those emails have already seen the light of day and there is no place for that in any sport. But I do believe Gruden has a right to be heard and defend himself. The court will now determine whether the NFL and Goodell should also be held liable for their actions.
