Founded in 1967 in Houston, the Rockets have been the home of many NBA stars throughout history. Their story begins in San Diego in 1967, where they paid $1.75 million to join the NBA. After some struggles in San Diego, the Texas Sports Investments bought the team and moved it to Houston, Texas.
The addition of Moses Malone made Rockets a solid team and they saw some great seasons, but never managed to win an NBA title. Things would change for the better when they drafted Hakeem Olajuwon in 1984, a player that would go down as the best player of the franchise. His impact was immediate and the following season, the Rockets defeated the Showtime Lakers but fell short of winning the title, as they lost to the Boston Celtics in the finals.
The next few seasons were marked by struggles as they failed to go deep in the playoffs. The 1993-94 season was the season when everything would fall into place for the Rockets. They started the season by winning 15 games in a row and Olajuwon would end up winning the MVP title and also Best Defensive Player of The Year. They would go all the way and win the title. Their impressive run wouldn't end here since they repeated the same success the next season.
