The franchise of Phoenix Suns joined the NBA in 1968 and was a mediocre team throughout the early years. However, their fortunes were about to change when they made some terrific trades in the 1975-76 season. They traded for Paul Westphal, who led the team all the way to the NBA Finals, where they made the NBA finals, but ultimately lost to the Boston Celtics. The next era of success would come in the ‘90s when they traded for Charles Barkley and hired Paul Westphal as their head coach. This proved to be a great move for them since, in 1993 they reached the Finals and the legendary Bulls needed six games to defeat them.
The next 10 years they were average as a team, but in 2004 they signed Steve Nash, a free agent at that time, and the success was incredible. His partnership with Amar’e Stoudemire and Shawn Marion made the Suns one of the most attractive teams in the league. During this time, Steve Nash would win two MVP titles in a row. However, this Suns squad never managed to reach the NBA Finals and ultimately disbanded. The past few seasons, the Suns have been struggling and are in rebuilding mode.
