About the initiative
Description of the initiative
AI-enabled capabilities to help UX and content designers deliver digital work faster and more consistently. This includes supporting early ideas, rapid iteration, drafting and revising content, creating and comparing design options (task flows, wireframes, mockups, interactions, prototypes), and producing documentation needed for handoffs and approvals while still meeting GC standards. We also want employees to build modern, transferable skills.
Problem statement
Today, producing an accessible digital experience takes a lot of manual work: writing and rewriting plain-language content, designing user interfaces (UI), checking content and designs against standards, creating many versions, mapping page structure and navigation, and organizing design files so others can find and reuse them. This slows delivery and can lead to inconsistent results. We need safe AI support to reduce repetitive work while keeping human review and accountability.
Expected outcome if AI is selected
Success is a 20–30% reduction in time spent on repetitive iteration, drafting, variant creation, file organization, and documentation, with faster turnaround for design deliverables. Quality improves through fewer accessibility or content issues found in review. We also produce clear guidance and training so staff can use approved AI safely and build modern, market-relevant skills.
Risks
Risks include inconsistent or unapproved use of AI across teams, which could reduce reuse and create uneven quality. There is also a risk that outputs may be inaccurate or not meet accessibility/content standards if they are not reviewed. If any third-party service is involved, risks include unclear data handling (such as retention or reuse). These risks can be reduced through a phased approach (starting with non-sensitive information), clear rules and training, approved use cases, and required human review.
